Buenas Dias. Lily Allen is the internet 'zero to hero' phenomenon. Just one of the many thousands of hopefuls to post music on the internet in late 2005, we are told her rise to the #1 slot on the UK singles chart last summer (with "Smile") was primarily fueled by an incendiary Myspace buzz. It's a modern fairy tale, I guess. (And I have to wonder if it's so simple as we're made to believe.) I do enjoy the clean blend of dancehall, reggae and showtune samples with beats and classic melodies in her songs. Her breezy feel-good tunes stand counterpoint to her sassy lyrics, lending a freshness to her package deal. In this ode to the princess of Myspace I'm experimenting with that breezy island music vibe and getting messy with it.
